Early in March (2001), Oakwood Chapel has arranged a visit from a representative from Reachout Trust, a Christian organisation specialising in providing information on cults, the occult, and the "New Age" movement, to give two talks.

So we're inviting you and as many of your church as would like, to come along on Thursday 8th March, from 7.30 - 9.30 p.m. Admission is free; an offering towards the work of Reachout Trust will be made.

Outline programme

7.30: First talk: a briefing on "standard" cults (JW's, Mormons, etc.)

8.15: Break / refreshments

8.30: Second talk: the threat of the "New Age" movement

Being a "movement" rather than an individual cult, this is difficult to pin down, but it includes beliefs and attitudes which are thoroughly permeating modern society. Many popular websites offer links to Astrology or Tarot sites, a more personalised offering than the traditional nonsense of the Star Signs in daily newspapers. New Age phrases ("... in a previous life") have slipped into common usage, and the anti-Christian attitudes behind them are rapidly becoming part of the typical 21st-Century outlook.

9.15: Any questions

9.30: Close

Reachout Trust can provide extensive literature and other resources on these issues, and there will be a bookstall available on the night.
